Don’t Worry Your Life Away
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to spend today worrying about tomorrow?
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” — Matthew 6:34
Our minds race ahead to conversations that haven’t happened, bills that haven’t arrived, doctor’s appointments we haven’t attended, and situations we cannot control. Before long, we’ve lost today’s joy because we’re living in tomorrow’s fears.
There’s a line in Jason Gray’s song Sparrows that has stayed with me: “Don’t worry your life away.” Those simple words capture a profound biblical truth. Worry has a way of quietly stealing the life God intended us to enjoy.
Jesus never promised that life would be free from trouble. In fact, He acknowledged that each day brings its own challenges. Yet He also lovingly reminded us not to borrow tomorrow’s burdens.
Anchor Truth: Peace isn’t found in knowing what tomorrow holds; it is found in trusting the One who holds tomorrow.
Tomorrow Doesn’t Need You Today
When Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow…” He wasn’t telling us to ignore responsibilities or refuse to plan wisely. He was teaching us the difference between faithful preparation and fearful preoccupation.
Planning trusts God while making wise decisions.
Worry tries to carry what only God was meant to hold.
Every minute spent imagining worst-case scenarios is a minute we cannot spend appreciating God’s goodness today.
The enemy wants our attention fixed on uncertainty.
God invites us to fix our eyes on Him.
A Troubled Heart Has a Choice
Just before His crucifixion, Jesus looked into the eyes of anxious disciples and said:
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1)
Imagine hearing those words from the Savior Himself.
The disciples didn’t understand what was about to happen. Their future looked uncertain. Their emotions were overwhelming. Yet Jesus didn’t begin by explaining every detail. He began by inviting them to trust Him.
That invitation still stands today.
When life feels uncertain, we can either rehearse our fears or remember God’s faithfulness.
His Peace Is Different
A few verses later, Jesus made another incredible promise:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
The world’s peace depends on favorable circumstances.
Christ’s peace depends on His unchanging presence.
That’s why believers can experience peace even in hospital waiting rooms, during financial uncertainty, or while praying for a prodigal child. The circumstances may not change immediately, but God’s presence never leaves.
His peace isn’t fragile.
It’s anchored in Him.
Be Still
One of my favorite reminders is found in Psalm 46:10:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Worry keeps our minds running.
Faith teaches our hearts to rest.
Being still doesn’t mean pretending problems don’t exist. It means recognizing that God is greater than every problem we face. We can stop striving because He never stops working.
Sometimes the holiest thing we can do is quietly sit before the Lord and remember who He is.
Where Perfect Peace Is Found
Isaiah gives us one of Scripture’s greatest promises:
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3)
Notice where peace begins.
Not with changed circumstances.
Not with answered questions.
Not with perfect control.
Peace begins when our minds remain fixed on God instead of our fears.
What fills our minds will eventually shape our hearts.
If we continually meditate on everything that could go wrong, anxiety grows.
If we continually meditate on God’s character, His promises, and His faithfulness, our confidence grows instead.
Today’s Anchor
You may not know what tomorrow holds. But you know the One who does.
The God who has faithfully carried you through every yesterday has already gone before you into tomorrow. He is not surprised by what concerns you. Nothing catches Him off guard.
So today, choose to release what you cannot control into the hands of the One who controls all things.
Don’t worry your life away. Live it trusting the Savior who loves you, walks beside you, and promises never to leave you.

Prayer
Father, so often I allow worry to steal the peace You have promised. Forgive me for carrying burdens You never intended me to bear. Teach me to trust You more deeply each day. Help me keep my mind fixed on You instead of my fears. Fill my heart with the peace that only Jesus can give, and remind me that You are already waiting in every tomorrow I face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Anchor Point: Don’t spend today’s strength carrying tomorrow’s burdens. God is already there.
